Visiting Super Nintendo World was a nostalgic family adventure, with immersive rides like Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, interactive mini-games using Power-Up Bands, and a fun dining experience at Toadstool Café. The park’s vibrant atmosphere, filled with iconic Mario details, made it a hit for all ages, creating unforgettable memories and taking me back to my youth !

As movie and gaming fans, the FamilyDaysOut team recently returned to Universal Studios Hollywood to explore Super Nintendo World—and it was everything we hoped for and more! As someone who grew up playing these iconic games (and maybe spent a little too much time on them!), stepping into this immersive, interactive world was like a dream come true. The entire area is designed to bring the magic of Nintendo to life, and we were all buzzing with excitement from the moment we passed through the green warp pipe entrance.

Power-Up Bands: Starting the Adventure

Our first order of business was grabbing Power-Up Bands for everyone, a must-have to unlock the full Super Nintendo World experience. With six character designs to choose from (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Daisy, and Toad), we each picked our favorites—though it took a while because everyone wanted the same character! The bands sync with the Universal Studios app, turning our day into a real-life video game where we collected coins, competed in mini-games, and tracked achievements. The kids were obsessed with checking their scores and competing with each other, and honestly, I was right there with them!

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge – Our Favorite Ride

The highlight of our day? Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, without a doubt. As Mario Kart fans, we were eager to hop into the karts, and the ride exceeded our expectations! The queue through Bowser’s Castle was an experience in itself, with all kinds of Mario-themed details that had us grinning before we even got on the ride. Once inside, we put on our augmented reality (AR) goggles and were instantly transported into a Mario Kart race, zooming through colorful tracks, throwing shells at Bowser, and collecting coins—just like in the games.

We were laughing and shouting the entire time, aiming our shells and competing for the top spot. The blend of AR and physical sets made it feel like we were truly in the game. And the best part? The ride is equally fun for adults and kids alike, making it a perfect family experience.

Mini-Games and Bowser Jr.’s Shadow Showdown

Super Nintendo World isn’t just about rides—it’s packed with interactive games that made us feel like we were part of the Mario universe. With our Power-Up Bands, we took on various mini-games like Koopa Troopa POWer Punch and Piranha Plant Nap Mishap, where we had to complete quick challenges to collect keys. These keys unlocked Bowser Jr.’s Shadow Showdown, an epic family-friendly boss battle where we worked together to defeat Bowser Jr. Ee all felt like we were in a real-life Mario level!

Yoshi’s Adventure – Perfect for the 'The Smalls'

After the high-energy Mario Kart ride and mini-games, we decided to slow things down with a ride on Yoshi’s Adventure. This gentle, scenic ride is perfect for the younger family members, who will enjoy spotting characters and taking in the colorful sights of the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s a laid-back, easygoing ride, but still packed with Nintendo charm, making it a great option for little ones while still entertaining the older kids.

Lunch at Toadstool Café – Fun and Delicious!

All that action worked up an appetite, so we headed to Toadstool Café for lunch. The café’s fun Mario-themed decor iwas eye-catching, and the menu was full of fun Mario-inspired dishes. We went for the Mario Burger, complete with a mustache-shaped bun, and couldn't resist resist the Fire Flower Spaghetti & Meatballs. The portions were good, and the food was delicious, but what really made the meal special was the atmosphere—music from the Mario games played in the background, and we were surrounded by colorful Mario-themed decor.

We also stopped into Power-Up Café. The café's bright, colorful décor perfectly captures the fun of the Mario universe, and the food was just as playful. We loved the quirky Super Mushroom Fizz, a fizzy lemon-lime drink with popping pearls that came with a fun mushroom-shaped sugar cube to drop in. They offered  themed meals, like the vibrant calzones and the atmosphere made it feel like we were still inside the game while enjoying a break to refuel
