Solve the Mystery and Escape the Room: Houdini's in Southampton. Family Days out recently visited this impressive escape room experience, & this is what happened!

Family Days Out recently had the pleasure of visiting:

Houdini's Southampton

- an amazing escape room experience that really has to be experienced to be understood.

Houdini's are one of the leading Escape Room companies in the UK, with locations up and down the country. Take it from us - if you are near one, try them out!

Family Days Out have been to a number of escape rooms, and we can honestly say this was one of the best, if not the best. The attention to detail is astounding, even when you have only just arrived. Posters of past Houdini shows adorn the walls, with intriguing examples of puzzles dotted throughout the seating area.

Even trying to understand these table puzzles whilst we checked in started the clogs in the mind turning about what was to come. Would our success rate match previous groups? We hoped so!

When you check in, make sure you fill our the waiver with your contact details, including a contact phone number as this will ensure you are emailed or texted your teams ranking and photo.

The escape room we participated in at Houdini's Southampton was:

Creepy Carnival

At the time of writing, there were 3 rooms to choose from: Creepy Carnival, Titanic, and Room 13.  When we spoke to the incredibly friendly staff, a forth room was pending and a fifth was being developed (which sounded brilliantly mysterious and was being developed by our Game Master,  who was also the General Manager)

We soon realised this experience was going to be SO much more than escape rooms we had visited in the past. The Games Master assigned to us went through the security, but also asked how we would like to receive clues - if at all.
We as a team could opt out of any clues, or ask for a "small" yet still cryptic clue, or obtain a "large" and easy clue. So if you don't want a level of difficulty that might jeopardise the completion of the room, you could choose as a team to obtain hints to help you.

He also mentioned he himself would be the character popping up from time to time within the room - yes, an interactive room with an actor! We loved that.

We entered the dimly lit room oozing atmosphere and mystery, and found ourselves surrounded by creepy (hence the name!) and fascinatingly eerie abandoned carnival items. We were detectives, and were there to solve the mystery of a missing girl. How exciting!

The whole environment was amazing, and so much more than just a room with clues. We were living this experience. To our delight, once we solved the final clue in that initial room, a door opened to ANOTHER room.

This second room completely different to the first. Our guide - sorry, "creepy character" - surprised us in person. This was an absolute delight (some might say fright) as never before had we experienced an escape room with this level of interaction.

This second room opened to another.  This escape room was so immersive you literally felt like you were in the heart of a movie as opposed to a game room.
