Labor Day began in 1882 and honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. The first actual Labor Day was in Toronto! So we hope you're ready for some Labor Day fun across the USA! Let's check it out!
Made In America Festival
This festival is arguably the most famous of the music festivals that happen across the states. Hosted in Philadelphia on the 3rd and 4th Sept, the Made In America line up this year includes Rihanna, Coldplay, FKA Twigs, and Grimes, just to name a few. The festival was started by Jay-Z, who personally picks the artists, and it's an all ages event - even better! You do need to be over 21 to enter the beer gardens though.
National Parks 100-year Celebration
Just shy of Labor Day, the National Parks Service celebrates it's 100 year birthday on the 25th August, so why not help them celebrate! There are SO many National Parks across the USA - each one is so special, and it's not trees! You have the stunning Everglades National Park in Florida, with it's swamps and wildlife, right through to the stunning ice formations at Glacier National Park Grab an RV, or a tent, or just go for the day, because there are so many incredible formations and landscapes to see across the country! It's a beautiful country! Happy birthday NPS!
Spend the afternoon at the ballpark!
Play Ball! There are a number of games on Labor Day, such as the Washington Nationals against the Atlanta Braves at Nationals Park. Grab a hot dog, or nachos, and enjoy the day together as a family!
Explore the Byways!
The Scenic Byways across the USA are a great way to really explore the country, taking you off the main highways and really into what makes the country special. Spend the day on a mini road trip with the family. Grab a map, and choose somewhere within a couples of hours - or just hit the road and choose the turns as you go! Then, spend the day as a family, celebrating what makes the USA great! Take a packed lunch, have a picnic, and just have that open road in front of you, and don't forget your camera!
Make A Splash!
Across the USA, Labor Day normally marks the end of that water parks season where you have spent most of the summer splashing around - so celebrate by having one last day at those incredible water parks! There are some doozies like Dollywood's Splash Country, and Water Country USA, and with water slides, lazy rivers, tubes and wave machines, it's the best way to say goodbye to summer, yay to Labor Day, and hello to Fall!
These are only a few fun things you can do on Labor Day, but there is of course so much more to enjoy, so get creative, and most of all, have FUN!
