About Wichita Historical Museum
Ever wondered what some places in America looked over 100 years ago? What did they do? What did they wear? (Bet you think they wore some funny looking clothes!) Well, we guess compared with what people wear now, they might have seemed funny!
The Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum takes you right back to the mid 1800s (that's a really long time ago!) so you can learn, see and feel what the area was like all those years ago.
They have a large collection of photos and artefacts that take you back in time.
Everyone in the family can appreciate the history here, so it's great for all ages. Some of the exhibitions might not be quite understood by the really smaller kids, but there is a lovely section on American Indian history that always appeals to them.
There are both permanent exhibitions, as well as revolving ones, so there is always a reason to keep coming back! You will discover what Wichita art was like and the history behind it, how people lived - including military barracks, college dorms and row house. How does it compare to how you live now!? They didn't have XBox's or Facebook back then!
There's a fun recreation of a typical neighbourhood drug story, and also a great exhibition for children where it looks at the life as a child through their toys and experiences.
Whatever the weather, the collections here will be just as fascinating on this walk through American history.
