Western Railway Museum
About Western Railway Museum
The railroad is such an important part of American history, and it's a rare experience to be able to see what California was actually like 100 years ago - but you can do that right at the Western Railway Museum!
This fascinating museum is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the electric railway, and now YOU can learn all about it too! Not only that, at the Western Railway Museum you can actually enjoy an 11 mile trip with the family. Pretty cool!
The train will take you through the picturesque Montezuma Hills which is actually over the historic main line of the Sacramento Northern Railway - so you will be seeing exactly what those passengers saw around a century ago!
The museum is a living history museum, so kids get to ride authentic historic streetcars, and even interurban electric trains that are from all over the state, as well as the western US.
When you're not enjoying the train rides, you can check out the 50 historic cars that are on display, and really get up close to some history changing locomotives. If the family love trains, you will love the Western Railway Museum!
When you've finished your exploration, there are still shaded picnic grounds to enjoy, as well as a cafe and store, so there is plenty to fill up your family day out.
So grab those conductor hats - because you're about to go on a ride 100 years in the past!
