About Upcountry History Museum

Uncover 300 years of South Carolina history at The Upcountry History Museum! Here you can explore the permanent exhibits that tell the stories of the people that shaped this fascinating Upcountry history, and learn about what life would have been like across three centuries.

Each of the permanent exhibits tell a specific part of the regions history. The First Floor Atrium tells of the Upcountry’s architectural treasures where you can step into the past and explore its rich history.

The Upcountry Frontier exhibit introduces the geography of the region and talks of its early inhabitants. Kids always love their fiber-optic interactive map so make a stop there! Also in this exhibit you can see a wall mural, artifacts, as well as a character figure of frontiersman Richard Pearis.

South Carolina Divided combines an exhibition area as well as a video theatre that is centered around the front porch of a rural dwelling of the 1790s which is pretty amazing to see!

The film features Upcountry settler Mary Logan telling the story of those turbulent times - can you imagine what life would have been like during those times!?

Then, you can move to the Crossroads & Transitions exhibit! This fascinating exhibits takes you on a stroll through the city Greenville during the mid-1850s. Kids can see facades of hotels, shops, and churches, as well as character figures, murals, and even four kiosks with interactive computer presentations.

So much to see and learn, and we haven't even covered all of the permanent exhibits yet!
