About Toy Train Depot

Love trains? Love history? Welcome to the Toy Train Depot! It might just have everything you need! The Toy Train Depot is a fun day out for the kids, where they can learn about trains, see scale models of trains and ride trains!

Did you know that the building itself is actually a real train depot? It's been said that the depot began life as far back as 1898, so just imagine the history it has!

One of the highlights at the Toy Train Depot is the ride on the MTC, the Miniature Train Company. It's actually a 1/5 scale Alamogordo/Alameda narrow gauge railway, so you can just imagine what it would be like on the real thing!

This fun ride takes you to a number of park stops like North Loop, Rosebud, Live Tree and Dead Grass.

The most popular train within the museum is the 1865 Steamer. This MTC replica actually can show you the type of train that helped solidify the American railroad industry. It was also one of the most popular trains at the time!

Kids can learn about the history of New Mexico too, and how the railroad shaped the development of the state.

If you want to learn more during your visit, guided tours by volunteer docents are available upon request
