About The Getty Center
Familydaysout have been lucky enough to visit the Getty Center a number of times and we always have a great time.
The museum is incredibly family-friendly and a great way of introducing younger children to art in a fun and informative way.
Set in an incredible architectural space that is more like a city than a museum, there are also lots of opportunties to enjoy the outdoor areas and wander amongst the beautiful gardens and architecture.
For younger children it's worth visiting the Family Room. Lots of touch and feel activity that's full of fun things that will also help eager minds learn about the art world. Keep an eye on the website too for lots of family based events over the yearly calender.
There are also 'Art Detective' cards that allow the children to explore the site and hunt for clues and fill in fun questions and challenges. (They are available in other languages too). This kept my children amused for hours.
For the older children and The Getty has a number of permanent exhibitions of modern and classical art and also a fantastic calender of travelling exhibitions.
Look for the voulunteers in blue vests to answer your questions and provide directions. They'll help you find the Central Garden's zigzag pathway, where hundreds of types of plants await your discovery, and guide you to other fun activities for families.
The higher points of the site also allow for some of the most incredible views across Los Angeles. The children will also enjoy the tram ride that takes you from the bottom of the parking site up to the main entrance.
It's great place to take the family if you want to immerse yourselves in a little culture and also is free entrance (apart from a small parking fee) so a great way to spend a day without breaking the bank.
