About The Alexandria Zoo
The Alexandria Zoo was founded in 1926, so imagine how many family memories it's created in all those years! And now YOU can be part of the history!
Set across 33 shady acres, Alexandria Zoo is home to more than 600 animals and features a number of exhibits that you can explore, and see some pretty amazing animals face to face.
The Land of the Jaguar is SO much more than jaguars! Set on 2 and a half acres, this exhibits showcases the magnificent animals, architecture AND culture of Latin America.
Inside there are over 40 species of mammals, reptiles and birds, all living in impressive Mayan ruins. See the monkeys play, and the colorful birds take flight! Try and spot the giant anteater too!
Keeping it close to home, the Louisiana Habitat covers around 3 and a half acres and features fauna, flora and architecture of the state. Here, species such as bobcats, alligators, raccoons, red wolves and white-tailed deer roam free.
Check out the underwater viewing areas too!
Over to Asia next where large viewing glass windows put you nose to nose with felines such as tigers and the clouded leopard. The rare Malayan tiger and Siamang apes can also be seen in this area!
The rare and endangered anoa also calls this exhibit home, giving kids an invaluable education on conservation at the same time.
The African Experience takes you to those impressive plains of African, and the Australian Walkabout goes Down Under with the wallaby, emu and kookaburras, just to name a few.
With Keeper Chats for more educational experiences, and year round events that you won't want to miss, it's time to get WILD in Louisiana because the Alexandria Zoo is calling!

Do they have baby facilities?
Visitors may bring their own stroller or they are available for rent. Limited availability on a first come, first serve basis. Single $2 | Double $3 | Wagon $5 | Jeep $5
I’m Hungry! Can I get food at The Alexandria Zoo?
Have an appetite as big as a lion? Whether you're in the mood for a hamburger, plate of nachos or a cool treat, you'll find it at the Palm Cafe. For the safety of the animals, straws and lids are not allowed in the zoo.
Any top tips when visiting?
Check out all the events they host across the year so you can put them in your diary! These include Zoo Boo at Halloween, Zoo Grass & Party for the Planet!
Does The Alexandria Zoo have a gift shop?
From animal themed clothing and huggable stuffed animals, to beautiful jewelry, toys and games, educational books and more! You'll find something for everyone at the gift shop!
Teachers corner
Alexandria Zoo is a fabulous outdoor classroom and our staff is ready to assist teachers, making your school field trip an experience to remember while reinforcing classroom teaching. They offer group discounts too!

Is The Alexandria Zoo fully accessible?
The Zoo's facilities are available for people of all abilities. All major facilities are wheelchair accessible. All restrooms are wheelchair assessible.. Wheelchairs are available free of charge. A photo I.D. is required for rental. Limited availability on a first come, first serve basis.
