Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center
About Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center
If you are an animal loving family, then Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center is the place you should be heading for your family day out.
They are a wonderful center that rescues and rehabilitates injured, displaced and orphaned wildlife with a view to releasing them back into their natural wild habitat once they are ready.
For those animals that are unable to be released back into the wild (meaning they wouldn't survive if they were released) they are cared for by the sanctuary for life. Which also means they are ensured they will remain happy for the rest of their lives!
They are the only sanctuary in Arizona which is able to care for large mammals such as mountain lions and black bears, so you can get up close to some creatures you may rarely see!
They tend to babies who may have lost their parents, hand feeding them with bottles and specialized formulas. They look after injured wildlife who may have been hit by cars or had their homes moved due to development, and tend to them until they are fully recovered.
The sanctuary always have the animals welfare in mind, so they don't open to the public unless a tour has been booked. They want to ensure the animals don't get spooked or overwhelmed with lots of people. This way they can control the numbers, but also they can assist with making your time there exactly as you want it. They can work with you on what you want to see, making sure you don't miss out on anything!
For kids aged 9 - 12 they hold Wildlife Discovery Camps where those with a passion for nature and science can spend time learning and investigating the lives, habitats and conservation of the animals.
They also offer school trips, classes every Monday for home schoolers, educational programs.
A fantastic way for kids to learn about animals, conservation, and how they live together with these precious creatures in harmony.
