About Sanford Museum and Planetarium

The Sanford Museum and Planetarium is a wonderful learning experience for the whole family, especially kids!

This Cherokee museum offers a number of exhibits and programs that cover a range of subjects including Astronomy, Geology, History, Natural History, and Prehistory - offering kids an incredible insight into our world and those people who have shaped it to what it is today!

On the lower level kids can explore everything from space to archaeology, before moving to the Sanford Room where you go back in time, and reflect on the lives of people living in the 19th century - kids, we expect you'll find life over 150 years ago pretty different to your lives today!

Don't miss the East Gallery where an art wall showcases incredible works of art from local artists, plus works that tell the story of Cherokees development, and the struggles and triumphs of the early settlers.

Then of course, the Sanford Museum also features that amazing Planetarium with a super cool SciDome Theater showing a number of amazing programs and shows that can offer you an amazing journey into the Solar System, Universe and beyond!

Each month the planetarium programs are centered around a theme, and public shows happen at 4pm every Wednesday and Sunday, and they have even started programs JUST for those under 6 years which occur the second Wednesday of each month at 3pm.

So get ready for a day of learning and discovery at the Sanford Museum and Planetarium - you never know what you might uncover!
