About Potawatomi Zoo

Who loves animals!? We certainly do, and so do Potawatomi Zoo!

Located in South Bend, this fantastically family friendly zoo is home to over 400 creatures, representing 160 species, stretched out over 23 acres. 

What's special about the Potawatomi Zoo, is that some of the species are endangered, including the Amur leopard, Bengal tigers, and the snow leopard, so not only can kids can a great day out coming face to face with some amazing creatures, but they can also learn about why it's so important to look after our animals!

There is also an Endangered Species Carousel that you can enjoy too!

With over 400 species at the zoo, you will certainly be exploring creatures from all over the world - and some you might not have even heard before! Kids - have you heard of the Agouti before? Or perhaps the Reeves Muntjac? A visit to the zoo can fix that!

Of course, there are also those favorites at the Potawatomi Zoo that you can spend the day with. From the grand African Lion, to the cheeky Red Panda or the playful Ring-Tailed Lemurs or Chimpanzees!

As well as those amazing mammals, the zoo features a number of invertebrates, reptiles, and of course birds too, so there is lots to see on the family day out of yours!

Think that's all? Nope! The Potawatomi Zoo also has a host of fun events across the year, from Halloween fun, to celebrating World Oceans Day, and Endangered Species Day!

Doing our bit

The zoo take an active role in preserving endangered species. They participate in several funds, which breed and manage those creatures whose numbers are dwindling.

Do they have baby facilities?

They have strollers for $4 rental

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Potawatomi Zoo?

The Congo Cafe is a great place to pick up burgers, hot dogs, and more! There is also an ice cream station - yum yum!

Any top tips when visiting?

They have great family evening classes, as well as zoo camps and great events! Make sure you check out everything they have to offer!

Does Potawatomi Zoo have a gift shop?

Check out the Jungle Gift Shop for some pretty neat gifts, merchandise and souvenirs! AND you are helping the animals by taking something home!

Teachers corner

Take learning out of the classroom with fun field trips at the zoo! They have a great group rates it's a great way to kids to experience animals, including some very rare, and even enjoy a train ride!
