About Pony Express Museum
So just what is the Pony Express - kids, do you know? Well, a visit to the Pony Express Museum will answer any questions you may have about this period in history!
A trip to the Pony Express Museum is where you can experience many exciting, educational, state-of-the-art exhibits conveying the need, creation, operation and termination of the Pony Express.
Whatever your age, you're sure to be captivated by the stories and images on an era long passed.
The Pony Express actually consisted of relays of men riding horses, that also happened to be carrying mail bags, across a HUGE 2,000 mile long trail.
This postal service officially opened back in 1860, and saw rides covering some 250 miles in a 24 hour day period. After some time, the Pony Express had over 100 stations, 80 rides and up to 500 horses, and whilst the route was incredibly hazardous, not a single piece of mail was lost!
Eventually, bankruptcy was declared, and the Pony Express found its way into the legend of the American West, and today YOU can learn all about it at this Missouri museum - housed in what used to be stables - a very fitting history!
So next time you receive mail into your postbox, just think of those who had to carry those letters on horseback across the country, and your time at the Pony Express Museum!

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Pony Express Museum?
Directly across the street is Patee Park, where you can sit at picnic tables for lunch and let the children release their energy on the playground equipment. One classic fixture of the park is an immense old steam engine from the mid-1800s—another example of the history of transportation in America and the settling of the West.
