Pikes Peak
About Pikes Peak
Did you know that the MOST visited mountain the the ENTIRE country is in Colorado? In fact, you're reading about it right now! Pikes Peak is actually also the second most visited mountain the WORLD! (Know what's the first - it's actually Mount Fuji all the way over in Japan)
Pikes Peak is am amazing backdrop for Colorado Springs, and at an altitude of 14,110 feet above sea level, it paves the way for some pretty amazing views!
Have you ever heard of the slogan "Pikes Peak or Bust"? Yes? Did you know that it came from all the explorers, pioneers and immigrants who made the peak the symbol of the 1859 Gold Rush to Colorado. It's the farthest east of all of the peak in the Rocky Mountain chain, so it became the one to aim for! Pretty amazing fact!
Pikes Peak is an amazing place for those family scenic drives, and even pack a picnic to enjoy up on along the outlooks. If you want to challenge yourself a little more, then try the bicycle trails. The roads are winding and scenic, so will challenge even the most experienced riders, but certainly the ascent to the summit is worth it!
To stick with that more scenic drive, the trip to the top and back takes about 38 minutes, so allow a minimum of 2 hours for your experience.
If you want to get some exercise, it's a great place for hiking, and there is a whole range of wildlife that you can encounter along the way.
Weather permitting, kids will also love the 8.9 mile cog railway - choo choo!
Grab those cameras and enjoy your experience at Pikes Peak!
