Petrified Forest National Park and the wonders it holds has been known for 100 years, however today it's more spectacular than ever! This Arizona landmark features one of the worlds largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood. It also features the multi-hued badlands of the Painted Desert, and yes, there is history too!

It's a surprising land of scenic wonders and fascinating science.
For those families who love adventure, Petrified Forest National Park has so many places to discover. You can enjoy the backcountry hikes into areas that until recently weren't open, including Red Basin. You can even explore lesser known areas including Martha's Butte!
If you want to stay overnight in the park, just obtain a free backcountry permit, which can be done in person at the Painted Desert Visitor Center or Rainbow Forest Museum.
Speaking of which, both locations are a great place to start your adventure! It's here you can plan your visit, ask all the questions you like, and kids, you can get your Junior Ranger booklet too!
You can join a ranger-led tour for some guided activity, or you might find it's being led by a scientist or reenactor too!
If you have a horse, they are welcome too! Horseback riding is a-plenty, or enjoy some backpacking or simple driving to the many overlooks.
