About North Avenue Beach

North Avenue Beach is one of Chicago’s most iconic lakefront destinations—and one of the most family-friendly beaches in the city. With soft sand, clear water, and tons of space to spread out, it’s a top pick for both locals and tourists looking to unwind.

Families will find designated swim zones, lifeguard supervision, and plenty of room for kids to build sandcastles, paddle at the shoreline, and play beach games. Older kids and teens can enjoy kayak, paddleboard, and jet ski rentals, while parents soak in the incredible skyline views.

There are beach volleyball courts, fitness classes, and bike rentals along the adjacent Lakefront Trail. You’ll also find Castaways Bar & Grill, a large boat-shaped beachfront restaurant serving food and snacks with restrooms and showers on-site.

Whether you’re planning a picnic, playing in the sand, or watching the sunset, North Avenue Beach is a quintessential Chicago summer experience.
