Nature is beautiful, and it's always great for kids to get out an explore it! At the National Tropical Botanical Garden, you can really spend the day with the family out in a beautiful location!
McBryde Garden is THE place to enjoy a fun, self-guided walking tour - one of the five sites at the National Tropical Botanical Garden. These tours start at the garden's Visitor Center in Poipu, and ALL of the tours begin with a super fun 15 minute tram ride into the stunning Lawai Valley! Amazing!
There are four distinctive walking trails to choose from, each of which will lead your family through an amazing setting with beautiful flowering plans, including gingers, palms, fruit trees and those amazing rare native Hawaiian plants (which you can't find anywhere else so it's a pretty special experience!)
Allow 1hr 45 minutes for the walking tours and the tram ride. Make sure you allow time for the Lawa Stream, and the Canoe Garden which has plants of ancient Hawaii!
If you want to spend the day around some amazing ancient Jurassic trees, then head on over to have a guided tour at the Allerton Garden! (It was one a retreat of the Queen!) Kids will love looking at the vibrant flowers, flowing water and landscaped designed all tucked away in the secluded Lawa'i Valley. These 2 - 2 1/2 hour tours will take you on unpaved terrain, rock stairs and slopes, so it's a pretty fun and exciting walk!
The National Tropical Botanical Garden is dedicated to preserving all these amazing plants, which helps them from staying around on our lovely planet so it's a great way for kids to learn all about the environment and conservation!

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at National Tropical Botanical Garden?
The Southshore Visitor Center has small snacks, soft drinks and water. Full service restaurants, snack bars and stores can be found nearby in Poipu and Koloa Town too, so you won't go hungry!
Any top tips when visiting?
An interpretive brochure is available for purchase in the shop, which gives you a great head start on the education!
Does National Tropical Botanical Garden have a gift shop?
There is a gift shop in the Visitors Center!
Does National Tropical Botanical Garden have healthy eating or Vegan options?
Drinking water may be found in designated areas of McBryde Garden.
Is National Tropical Botanical Garden fully accessible?
Check the mobility of the tours. Many of the paths are unpaved or grass, as well as uneven terrain. If you have questions, just give them a call before you arrive.
