The Museums of Sonoma County celebrate and interpret the region’s rich history, art, and culture by exhibiting and collecting relevant objects and artworks.
Throughout the museums, there are a number of exhibitions that you can explore, both permanent and traveling, meaning you can plan to go back again when there is something new to see!
You might see exhibits that commemorate historic events within the area, such as the rebuilding of the community after the firestorm that devastated the area. You might find yourselves learning about the Day of the Dead through various local artists.
Animal lovers might want to keep an eye out for wildlife based exhibits, such as the Story of the Californian Grizzly, or artistic kids might prefer to be inspired by collections of woodwork, paintings, and more.
The collections within the museums focus on art, as well as history. The art collection focuses on the artists who have lived and worked, and even been influenced, by Sonoma County. The history collection showcases a chronological representation of Sonoma County history and culture.

They offer free general admission for members belonging to the Reciprocal Programs including Time Travelers and Blue Star Museum. Check online for details!
Teachers corner
You can reserve a school tour of a day of art, activities, and learning at Sonoma County Museum. Their seasoned docents are trained to use Visual Thinking Strategies to engage your students/group and encourage visual literacy and critical thinking. A tour of each exhibition can take about 35-45 minutes, but can be tailored based on your schedule. Hands-on activities are tailored to the exhibitions and usually take about 30 minutes.
Is Museums of Sonoma fully accessible?
Limited free and handicap parking is available between the Museums on 7th Street, between A and B Streets.
