About Museum of the American Railroad
The Museum of the American Railroad was established in 1962 as a Texas non-profit corporation dedicated to celebrating the heritage and exploring the future of railroads through archival preservation, research, and educational programmes. The museum collects railroad artifacts and archival material to display and interpret their significance in American life and culture. Year-round exhibits and general programmes are available. Study trips, in-class programmes and outreach, and online resources are available to local schools and universities.
The Museum of the American Railroad includes 60+ authentic, life-sized railway rolling stock, including historic steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, passenger and freight rail cars, as well as two historic structures. The Museum is a leading destination for "Big Boy" steam locomotive 4018 (the largest ever built) and "Centennial" diesel locomotive (the largest ever built).
TrainTopia, the Museum's indoor G-Scale operating model train exhibit with an interactive light show, scavenger hunts, and moving miniature trains, is also popular with visitors. TrainTopia is located inside the Frisco Discovery Center (8004 N. Dallas Pkwy., Frisco, TX 75034).
The Museum hosts a variety of visitors, including group tours, educational field trips, and special events.
