About Museum of Spanish Colonial Art

The Mission of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society is solely to preserve the rich and fascinating cultural heritage of Hispanic New Mexico and its living traditions, so it's a wonderful place to kids to enjoy a cultural and educational day out in Santa Fe!

The permanent collection at the Spanish Colonial Arts Society is alone with gonig to see. This collection permanently houses nearly 4,000 devotional, decorative, and even utilitarian items across four storage vaults.

The core items in the collections focus on Hispanic traditional arts, from the state of New Mexico and the southern Colorado region, and then even items from all around the Spanish Colonial world!

The Spanish Colonial Arts Society started its mission to preserve the regional Hispanic traditional arts all the way back in 1928 with the purchase of a reredos (altar screen) from the Nuestra Señora del Carmen church in Llano Quemado. This beautiful altar screen was installed in the Palace of the Governors on the Santa Fe Plaza in 1929, and it has been on display as a long-term loan ever since!

Today, you can enjoy an enriching experience with the whole family, and really embrace the regions history, traditions and culture - and don't miss the impressive Spanish markets too! They will add to your family day out in Santa Fe!
