Museum of Life and Science is not only a world-class science center, but it's also 84 acres of curiously fun things for kid to discover and enjoy!

The interactive science center is a huge two stories high, and is filled with interactive exhibits for kids to discover, experience with, and learn from!

Not only that, the Museum of Life and Science is home to one of the largest butterfly houses on the East Coast, and who doesn't love seeing those gorgeous colorful creatures fluttering by?

Love animals? This Durham museum is also home to over 60 species of LIVE animals, so you can really enjoy a WILD family day out in North Carolina!

The Museum of Life and Science was created to give kids a way to actually enjoy science, and see how wonderful it is!

The Hideaway Woods exhibit is outdoor fun showing nature in a whole new light, with play zones that encourage kids to flex their bodies and their imaginations, sometimes 20ft off the ground!

Go back millions of years on dinosaur trail, where the late Cretaceous period comes to life. Grab a shovel and search for real fossils (including shark teeth!), and feel what a dinosaur skin might have felt like!

So much hands-on fun at the Museum of Life and Science, your kids will want to come back again and again. Parents, you might just learn some cool stuff too!

Do they have baby facilities?

Designated Caregiver Areas offer semi-private nursing locations as well as a quiet place to rest—away from the main exhibit floor. Caregiver icons on the Museum map show these locations.

A private nursing/caregiving room is available on the second floor of the main building. This quiet, enclosed space accommodates one family at a time and features low-lighting, comfortable seating, and changing amenities.

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Museum of Life and Science?

There is a cafe and a coffee bar to enjoy breakfast, lunch, snacks and hot drinks! A great place to relax too, before more science fun!
(Coolers are not allowed inside the Museum) but they have a huge picnic dome near our south parking lot if you’d like to bring your cooler and take your time before or after your visit.

Any top tips when visiting?

Host your party at the Museum of Life and Science and you'll excite a whole herd of pint-sized party goers! They have standard and deluxe parties to pick from!
Ask about the train when you check in / Take a photo of the posted maps and plan where you want to spend your visit / Check the weather report before your visit! Rain gear, coats, or ponchos might be necessary.

Does Museum of Life and Science have a gift shop?

The Gizmo Garage is great for school groups and younger visitors filled with toys and souvenirs, and the Elements Museum Store has a twist on the traditional store, with merchandise hand-picked by museum staff!
