Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge
About Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge
Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge is in the heart of the San Luis Valley, and has an array of wildlife from birds to der and more and also migrating cranes during March to September too! It's a great chance to get outdoors and get closer to nature with the family.
At the park, you'll be greeted by beautiful vistas of wetlands, meadows and more, with a scenic backdrop as you soak in the environment. Have a go at birdwatching and see what thousands of species you can identify and take some pictures too!
Drive, hike or bike the 2.5 mile wildlife drive or walk the meadowlark nature trail and observe the natural wonders. The best time to view the birds is from the start of March to November, and you may be lucky to spot them raising their young too!
The Meadowlake Trail is one quarter of a mile long and meanders around the wetland, allowing you to get close up views of the wildlife. It goes round in a loop and is a great activity to do with the family.
Make sure to check out the website to find out the latest information around the wildlife and migration so you know what to expect on your visit!
