About Milwaukee Fire Museum
The Milwaukee Fire Museum is a great place for kids to visit and learn all the goings on of a fire department AND learn its rich history!
Also known as the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society and Fire Museum, this society was founded back in 1981 and is today housed in the former firehouse of Engine Company 23 and Truck Company 14 - pretty cool!
The society itself is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Milwaukee Fire Department, including heritage and traditions. Open to the public, kids will love checking out their collection of memorabilia on display, as well as super cool vintage fire apparatus which kids can see first hand.
They also conduct educational and historical research activities too! Great for kids!
The fire house itself dates back to 1927 and served as an active fire station until 1995. Check out the portions of the restored exterior which reflect the original facade and architectural design of the 1920s. History right before you even enter!
Then, once inside, make sure you have a good look around as the entire interior décor remains just as it would have looked in days gone by.
Items kids will love include a circa 1910 working fire alarm telegraph system, as well as a functional 1920’s firehouse kitchen, plus original station furniture along with furnished personal lockers that reflect the period.
What's also cool about the Milwaukee Fire Museum are numerous pieces of fire apparatus which can also be seen, including a 1927 “MFD” pumper, as well as a stunning 1947 Cadillac ambulance PLUS a classic 1947 Pirsch pumper used by Engine 2!
So many super cool things to see and do at the Milwaukee Fire Museum! Neee yawww neee yawww! Let's go kids!
