About Milford Nature Center and Fish Hatchery
Who's excited for an adventure with nature, live animals and fun nature filled exhibits!? We certainly are! Which is why we're headed to the Milford Nature Center in Kansas, located right in the Flint Hills. A beautiful spot!
Milford Nature Center is the perfect place for kids to learn all about the natural communities of Kansas. It's a great interactive experience, with animal interactions.
They can see and touch the native animal furs, and even print their own animal tracks! (If you were an animal, kids, what kind of tracks do you think they would make?)
Kids can even use their sense of touch to try and identify some mystery items - sounds tricky!
Inside the nature center there are dioramas which line the halls, all depicting an aquatic system with over 300 life like fish, snakes, insects, turtles, and the ecosystem that's at work in the surrounding marshes, prairies and woods.
Kansas is teeming with wildlife, so the Milford Nature Center is the perfect place to visit if you want to learn about them! They have live animal exhibits which feature all sorts of creatures - from the chripy prairie dogs, to the turtles, lizards, snakes, amphibians, and much more!
It's a nature experience though, so we know you are just keen to get out into that nature itself! Outdoors brings you just as many treats. There is a large bird of prey exhibit which features many native raptors. These even include that majestic Bald Eagle!
Right next to this is the Bobcast display. How many have you seen in the actual wild? Probably not many!
To really embrace the nature around the Milford Nature Center, get out onto the nature trails, and just take your time walking around, spotting all the wildlife. There is a birdwatching wall for those keen eyes, and a backyard habitat which is a great educational site to show how you can attract wildlife into your backyard.
We haven't even started about the Nature Playground yet! Kids can slide through the belly of a snake, or jump on the back of a spider. We're not kidding!
So much fun to be had at the Milford Nature Center. Have a great time kids!
