About Medoc Mountain State Park

If it's peaceful, serene nature that you crave on your next family day out, look to Medoc Mountain State Park in North Carolina. This pleasurable excursion is just a 90 minute drive from the Research Triangle. At Medoc Mountain, the urban refugee finds a welcome tranquility, giving families just like yours a chance to embrace the outdoors.

The gentle Fishing Creek is a popular attraction within the park. Anglers and paddlers are drawn here, as it's considered to be one of the cleanest streams in the region. This stream flows for about 2 and a half miles through the park.

You can even bring your own canoe to Little Fishing Creek and enjoy a pleasant journey down the river. Great for beginners too!

If you want to just amble your way through the park, enjoy some of the parks ten miles of hiking trails as you wander along the creek. If you're feeling adventurous, you can make your way up several hundred feet to the upper reaches of Medoc Mountain.

Wanting to explore on horseback? Take advantage of the ten miles of bridle trails and trailhead parking that serves all equestrians. 

If you want to extend your family day out, then check out the 34 site campground which also has RV friendly sites and a bathhouse. 

To add something more to your adventure, why not check out the FREE interpretive programs and hikes with a ranger. It's a great way to explore more of the park, and kids can ask all the questions they like!

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Medoc Mountain State Park?

Shady woods and an open meadow provide ideal spots for picnicking in the park. Thirty tables and eight grills offer a choice of picnic locations. Drinking water and restrooms are located nearby.

Any top tips when visiting?

Medoc Mountain State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful. ​ Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.
