About Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center

Explore the local maritime history at the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center - and there is such a rich history you know you will be in for some fascinating historic experiences!

Start your journey with an orientation program that describes the visitor center, its exhibits and services, and how they reflect the Great Lakes shipping and development, before discovering exactly what it was like to work aboard a Great Lakes ship.

Kids, do you think it would have been easy work or really hard work?

You can learn about their jobs, what that entailed, their shipboard life and the crew themselves, and just what it meant on a daily basis to live and work aboard these impressive structures.

Also at the Visitor Center you can learn about those ships that weren't so lucky on their journeys, with particular focus on 1905 - the most devastating year for ships ever in Lake Superior.

Film shows, model ships and exhibits all complete your exploration of commercial shipping of Lake Superior and the Duluth-Superior Harbor, and not only that - at Canal Park you are within yards of giant lake carriers and foreign ships as they pass under the world-famous Aerial Lift!

It's time to set sail on this maritime filled family day out, where history and learning come together for a fascinating and eye-opening day out in Duluth.
