About Kickapoo State Park

Did you know that Kickapoo State Park was once a turn-of-the-century surface mining operation? Today it offers nearly 3,000 acres of outdoor playground for families just like yours to explore and enjoy. That also includes over 220 acres of water fun too!

For those hikers in the family, or just lovers of wildlife, Kickapoo State Park is a prime year-round adventure for you.

Deep water ponds are teeming with insects, plants and amphibians. The Middle Fork of the Vermillion River runs through the site.

Keep an eye out because you might just spot some white-tail deer, raccoon, muskrat or mink. Over 100 species of bird have been spotted in the park, so for those never happier than behind binocolars or sporting a bug net this is a paradise!

There are 22 lakes within the park, where anglers can try their luck at catching a number of fish species, or you can rent boats and canoes to take out on Clear Pond.

Did you know that Kickapoo State Park is also one of only a few state parks in Illinois that allow scuba diving? Make sure you register and show proper certification, but it's a fun way to spend the day!

Mountain Biking is hugely popular too, with 12 miles of the single best track in the state.

In winter one may try cross-country skiing, sledding, ice fishing and ice skating, and there is camping available within the park.

You certainly won't be short of adventure in Kickapoo State Park! What are you waiting for?
