About Houston Zoo

Houston Zoo in Texas is a fantastic day out for the whole family. With over 6000 animal residents its a great opportunity to see a huge animal variety.  Thier  mission statement is "The Houston Zoo connects communities with animals, inspiring action to save wildlife."

Many exhibits including: African Forrest, Bird Habitat, Bug House, Galapagos Islands, Giraffe Deeding Platform, Reptile and Amphibian Habitat, Sea Lion Habitat, Wortham World Of primates and much more. 

The Houston Zoo connects individuals to animals to motivate them to take action to save wildlife in the wild. They are dedicated to leading the global effort to save animals in the wild by connecting people to animals. Each year, over two million people visit the zoo to meet its incredible animals and ecosystems, and they help fund the zoo's conservation efforts by purchasing an admission ticket or membership. They contribute to 49 wildlife preservation efforts in 27 nations through guests' visits to the zoo. We are proud to be the second most visited zoo in the US and the most-popular cultural attraction in the region.

Many animal encounters are vailable at the zoo wioth a portion of mopney raised going towards protecting animals in the wild.The Houston Zoo is an active partner in the AZA's Species Survival Plan (SSP) Program, a population management and conservation program for selected species housed in North American zoos.

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Houston Zoo?

There are plenty of dining options available at the zoo. Twiga Café, Cypress Circle Café and even dining at food trucks

Any top tips when visiting?

Please allow plenty of time for parking and arrival. The Zoo opens at 9 a.m., and you are welcome to visit the Zoo before and after your Animal Encounter. Guests who arrive 5 minutes or more late will not be permitted to join the experience.
Select areas of the Zoo are equipped with Wi-Fi.

Does Houston Zoo have a gift shop?

Plenty of souvenirs are available in the extensive gift shop.

The zoo offers extensive filed trip opportunities and has a whole section on working with educators on their website for further information.

Does Houston Zoo have healthy eating or Vegan options?

Most menus contain healthy eating options so you can be sure you have the option tom eat well.

Is Houston Zoo fully accessible?

Renting a stroller, scooter, wheelchair, or wagon is possible. You can rent scooters, wheelchairs, wagons, and strollers to help get around the zoo.
