About Harwood Museum of Art
TheHarwood Museum of Artof the University of New Mexico brings Taos art to the world, and world art to Taos - pretty catchy, and yet very true!
This New Mexico museum of art preserves, collects and exhibits historic and contemporary art and culture of the Taos region, and is a great place for older kids to come and be inspired by art, AND learn about history and culture too!
The collections within the Harwood Museum of Art cover a range of themes, topics and history, offering an insight into different cultures of the region, and the world.
Kids can see Hispanic Traditions, as well as Native American artworks. There are artworks from modern Taos artists, as well as inspiring contemporary art.
Art is not just paintings kids, because also at the Harwood Museum of Art, you can see photographs, drawings and prints!
Whilst the collections are permanent, the museum also feature changing exhibits that typically each focus on one artist or medium. There are always more than one exhibit on, and change frequently, so after a few months you can see a whole new selection of works!
A great way to keep going back to see your favorite collections, but ensuring there is something new to see too!
Keep an eye out for family days which offer special themed art projects for special occasions, and a great way for the youngest kids to get involved and be artistic!

Any top tips when visiting?
Family Guides are available to check out at the front desk. There are three guides that can be explored with activities for you and your children to share. Available are the Moderns Guide, Hispanic Traditions Guide, and Taos Founders Guide.
Does Harwood Museum of Art have a gift shop?
The Museum Shop offers gifts and souvenirs relating to the exhibits and collections, and also features great books for children of all ages!
Teachers corner
Over the past nine years the Harwood has developed a very successful program, Art in the Schools, which brings students to the museum for a monthly visit throughout the academic calendar year. This program currently serves Pre-K through 5rd grades from Enos Garcia Elementary School as well as the Taos Integrated School for the Arts.
Home school families are invited to a special art program exploring the Harwood's diverse collection and creating art in the Museum's inspiring Fern Hogue Mitchell Education Center the last Monday of each month as scheduled four times a year from 10-11:30 am. This program is designed for kids 4 - 12 years old
