About Harbor History Museum

There is so much to learn about Washington State because of it's rich history, so why not visit a place where you can immerse yourself in it!

The Habor History Museum is 14,500 sq ft of exhibits that showcase the amazing history, people and events that shaped Gig Harbor to what you know it today! Kids will love the hands-on learning, and with traveling exhibits too, there will always be something new to see when you head back!

7,000 sq ft of the Harbor History Museum is permanent exhibits, so you can go back and visit your favorites if you wnat! The rich heritage of the Gig Harbor Peninsula is all displayed through unique artifacts, hands-on exhibits, computer interactives, and even a small theater!

The rotating exhibits cover a range of topics, from artwork from local painters, to photographs and artifacts on the Netsheds in the area. Never heard of a Netshed? Well, these are those over-water houses that were built along the docks for the local fishermen!

Pretty cool!

Don't forget to step outside to check out the Shenandoah in all it's 65ft glory! This fishing vessel is being restored by the museum, and it's a great sight for the kids!

Make sure you check out the family programs that are held across the year, including those that celebrate the diverse cultures that make up Gig Harbor's past and present!

The Harbor History Museum does not have a restaurant/cafe onsite. However, the museum is conveniently located along the Gig Harbor waterfront where there are many options for food/beverages close by so grab something before your visit!

Does Harbor History Museum have a gift shop?

The Harbor History Museum Gift Shop is where to go for those gifts and merchandise to keep the museum experience going when you leave! You can choose form a wide variety of unique products ranging from original local art, to books on Peninsula history, to nostalgic toys of yesteryear.

Teachers corner

The Harbor History Museum has a wide variety of educational programs for all grade levels so there's no reason not to bring the students!. The programs are designed to meet Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements in Social Studies, Science, Writing and Communication.
