Did you know that the Greenville County Museum of Art is considered the premier American art museum in the South? That's right! And if that wasn't enough of a reason to visit, not only is the GCMA free admission (so everyone can enjoy the art!) but it's also home to the world’s largest public collection of watercolors by the amazing and iconic American artist Andrew Wyeth!

But that's not all - the Greenville County Museum of Art also houses an impressive collection of paintings and prints by contemporary artist Jasper Johns.

The collection also features Federal portraits and contemporary abstractions, and the GCMA’s acclaimed Southern Collection invites allows you to enjoy and immerse yourself in American art history through works with ties to the South.

Beyond the collections, the Greenville County Museum of Art is a great way for kids and adults alike to be inspired and actually get creative! Not only is sketching welcomed, but they host sketching events as well as Summer Art Camps. You might want to check out the Music in the Galleries events, or join one of the free tours offered that allows you to really get under the skin of the artists and the collections.

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Greenville County Museum of Art?

Plan a picnic on Heritage Green, or enjoy one of downtown Greenville's many delicious restaurants! Food and beverages, including water bottles, are not permitted in GCMA galleries.

Any top tips when visiting?

Pack light! All large bags, umbrellas, oversized walking sticks/canes, and backpacks must be left at the entrance

Teachers corner

Docent-led tours for groups of 10 or more can be arranged on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Tours typically last an hour and are free-of-charge. Just make sure you contact them at least 3 weeks in advance!

Is Greenville County Museum of Art fully accessible?

Guests with mobility disabilities should use the parking lot entrance to the GCMA. A limited number of wheelchairs and walking canes are available for guests to use during their visit.

Any additonal information?

Flash photography, selfie sticks, tripods, and drones are not permitted in the museum.
