About Greenburgh Nature Center
Getting out into nature is one of the best things you can do for yourself, so why not start at Greenburgh Nature Center, a 33 acre nature preserve with fun walking trails, a pretty pond and most importantly, animals!
The reserve is an important wildlife refuge for both indigenous species and migratory birds. There are even cute Eastern box turtles that use the wildflower meadow as a nesting area! Perhaps you want to take a nice walk with your family and try and spot some on your own? Can you see them hiding in the trees? What colors can you see?
The outdoor animals display has rabbits, pecking chickens, the very cute and often noisy prairie dogs, turkeys and even a bird of prey aviary. Can you tell the difference between the species?
Hikers will love the Forest Trail which is about 1/3 of a mile loop which is a beautiful stroll as the leaves crunch under your feet, and animals lovers can visit the live animal museum which is part of the environmental education center with over 100 specimens, a fascinating greenhouse and plants from all over the world!
There are a number of events held throughout the year so make sure you keep an eye on what's happening to make sure you don't miss out! These events are perfect for the whole family where you can learn about composting, the environment, even a family camp out where you can enjoy a BBQ and sleep under the stars!
If you are having trouble sleeping - try and count the stars! There are certainly plenty to keep you going!
