Fort Yargo State Park
About Fort Yargo State Park
When you have 1816 acres to play with, just imagine all the fun you could get up to! That's exactly what can happen at Fort Yargo State Park in the great Peach State!
Located between Atlanta and Athens, this popular family park features an historic log fort built by settlers back in 1792, for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Pretty impressive, isn't it?
Today, families come to Fort Yargo State Park for its huge range of outdoor recreation and scenery, so we hope you're feeling active because you will need the energy! An impressive 260 acre lake offers a large swimming beach where you can cool off during those summer months, or you can spend your time fishing with the family. You can even get out on the water courtesy of the boat ramps. Mountain bikers and hikers can test their endurance on 20.5 miles of trails if you are up for it, or the park’s wooded disc golf course is exceptionally challenging. Good luck kids!
If you want to extend your family day out and stay overnight, you can choose from fully equipped cottages, adventure cabins or cozy campsites. For a more unique experience, visitors can reserve lakeside “glamping” yurts, which are permanent canvas and wooden "tents." Each yurt has furniture and electricity inside and a fire ring, picnic table and grill outside. It's quite an experience!
With a seasonal sand beach, tennis courts, basketball courts and playgrounds to top it all off, it's no wonder Fort Yargo State Park is a super popular destination for families and kids - so why not join the club!
