Hello...? Yes...who's there? Oh it's nature calling! And what spectacular nature your family will experience in Custer State Park!
The park is an amazing 71,000 acres, nestled in the Black Hills. It is teeming with stunning wildlife, and is filled with breathtaking terrain. That also means there are plenty of things to see with the family, and plenty of places to explore for the kids! It's a world of adventure right in South Dakota!
Custer State Park has a variety of terrains for you to experience - from the clear mountain waters, the grand peaks to the open ranges.
Love wildlife? You're in the right place as there are a herd of 1,300 bison roaming free through the park - be prepared - they will literally stop traffic! The 18 mile Wildlife Loop Road is a great place to explore the park in the comfort of your own car. It will take you to see some amazing parts of the park - and of course that herd of bison! (They are actually one of the largest publicly owned herds in the entire WORLD!)
As well as bison, the park have a number of other species that call it home. From the mountain goats, to bighorn sheep, elk, deer, wild turkeys, and even antelope. Make sure you don't forget your camera!
Driving is a great way to see Custer State Park, as there are a number of scenic drives that allow you to explore the various diversities of the park.
During summer, get those fishing rods out because trout fishing is one of the most popular activities in the entire park! With four mountain lakes, they give you 182 acres of amazing crystal water to enjoy! Hiking trails, and accommodation give you that little more excitement on your family day out!
