Cowboys of Hawaii Mendes Ranch
About Cowboys of Hawaii Mendes Ranch
What images do Hawaii conjure up for you? Ocean, luaus, leis....cowboys? Strange! But at the Mendes Ranch, you can be a cowboy yourself!
Imagine taking to the horse trails on your very own steed, enjoying the amazing scenery of the Hawaiian coastline...nothing like that Pacific Ocean air in your face as you imagine yourself herding 5000 head of cattle back in the old west days!
The Mendes Family originated on the island in 1866 (that's a pretty long time ago!), all the way from a group of islands called The Azores. The land was originally a homestead in the 1940s, and grew into a ranch over 3,000 acres, with 300 head of cattle and 80 horses. That's impressive!
The trail ride that your family will be enjoying is actually right across a working ranch, so you can see what it really takes to be a cowboy (and kids can see what hard work REALLY looks like!)
There are two options you can choose with the trail ride - The Aloha Ride can be enjoyed in the morning or the afternoon, and will take you down the edge of an amazing valley, and stop at some beautiful points for a photo with the seascape in the background. This 90 minute experience has refreshments and a whole lotta fun ready to be had!
Because of the history of the ranch, there are lots of fun historical facts that kids can take in too, and sites to explore. Your ride will start at the Blacksmith Shop (Kids, do you know what they do?), and then you go through the breaking pen, through the rolling hills and you might even spot cattle being herded - it's not an easy task!
Some of the historic sites you might encounter are the Red Track where the famous Parker Ranch Thoroughbreds were trained (AND they still hold the world record for speed - how fast do you think they went!)
So if you are feeling a little horse today - join the club! Head on over to Mendes Ranch and REALLY get into the spirit of the cowboy way!

Hotel is hunted ???. It is called HAUNTED, which may or may not be so. The first Academy Award was given out here on this day (May 16th) in 1929.

Didn't stay here, but I had some drinks and food with some friends. First in the bar in the main lobby, then out by the pool. Great spot to chill! Next time I'm going bowling upstairs. P.s. have one of the staff tell you the story about Charlie Chaplin teaching Shirley Temple how to tap dance!

We really enjoyed our recent stay here. Perfectly located on Hollywood Blvd, with the Walk of Fame just outside the hotel. Their Cabana rooms with view on the pool are highly recommended. It feels like they were renovated very recently, and are well insulated so stay pretty quiet despite a very active pool scene. The pool itself is fantastic, nice size. There is also a cool poolside bar to enjoy. Service throughout the hotel was good; room service was efficient and food reasonably tasty.

Definitely new age in their approach to fine cuisine. Their "Mixologist" in the bar/lounge area was very receptive to making my group new cocktails based on our preference of foods. I was so surprised at how spot-on he was. Have you every had a Tequila drink with a little Jalapeno thrown in? Oh my. A little floral with a little nasty!!! again, oh my. The pool/late night party area just amazing. Visit their other sites; they take culinary/mixology to an entirely new level. Just amazing!

Bre Smith and staff are rock stars. Me and wife's wedding anniversary was made memorable because of Ms Smiths generosity. Pool food, drinks, ambience over the weekend was on point. Staff was firing on all cylinders. Service was top notch and everyone was courteous and professional. The Cabana suite was out of this world Mtv cribs status with plush bed, expensive furnishing, ample square footage, full bar, and a lanai with fireplace that opens up to the heart of the hotel, the tropical pool area. Ms Smith was exceptional with her attention to details. She kept wife's glass full with yummy cocktails, remembered our names and reason for stay and had room service deliver a bottle of bubbly, plate of decadent chocolate treats and a hand written note wishing us a happy anniversary. Wife couldn't be happier with our experience here. I recommend this classy historic landmark of a hotel to anyone that desires a place to party, eat well, treated like a VIP, rest and relax and is central to Hollywood. All the buzz of Hollywood is within walking distance. Stoked on returning.
