Choo choo! Where would we be without the train? (Probably walking a lot!) This invention has changed the entire world, so what better way to experience the history of these amazing creations that at the Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum?

Sounds like fun! This Kentucky museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of ALL the railroads in the state! For over 25 years they have been giving families rides on their train tours - pretty awesome!

When you arrive, you will be able to explore the not just the museum, but the model train display as well as great outdoor exhibits, including stone sills from the very first railroad built in Kentucky. Can you guess when that was? 1831! (Not a bad guess)

The museum itself showcases artifacts from the state's railroading history, and kids can see what life was like around the trains way back in the day.  There are even interactive displays with an actual working telegraph set where kids can use morse code to send messages! 

Of course, The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad Museum is more than just a museum! They hold fun events across the year, so make sure you check what's on so you don't miss out! From Easter Bunny Trails, Father’s Day Trains and even a Haunted Halloween train ride...you will be in for a treat! 

So get those conductor hats dusted off, and get ready for a chugging great time with the family! The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad Museum is ready to give the kids a trip through the past and a whole heap of fun!

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Bluegrass Railroad Museum?

There is a covered picnic area available adjacent to the railroad. Water and soft drinks sold in the Museum Gift shop.

Any top tips when visiting?

Be sure to bring your camera! In addition to many antique locomotives and train cars at the Museum, you may see thoroughbred horses, miniature donkeys, cattle, and fields of tobacco during your train ride.

Does Bluegrass Railroad Museum have a gift shop?

Hope you've saved your pocket money up! In the Museum Gift Shop you will find railroad themed books, games, and puzzles, and even T-shirts with railroad logos and photos. You can even pick up an engineers hat!

Teachers corner

The museum love having students there - it's a great learning experience! The conductor will give a history of the railroad, and the staff will interpret displays for the kids. Then they get a real train ride! Doesn't get much better than that!

Any additonal information?

Their tour train stops at Young's High Bridge over the Kentucky River. The bridge built in 1889 soars 285 feet above the river. That's pretty impressive!
