About The Costume Museum
The Costume Museum is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is home to 35,000 artifacts that relate to fashion and dress from the past three hundred years. The museum celerate fashion, culture and history and preserves costumes worn by the people of Canada from over the past few decades.
The collection includes, mens, womens and children's accessories and clothing, with the oldest artifact being a pair of shoes from 1765! There are lots of programs too throughout the year. There are fashion shoes staged by volunteers wearing the clothing, a hat shoe which is dedicated to hats and educational programs too!
The museum in a suitcase program allows the museum to be brought to life in the school classroom. The suitcase contains materials from all aspects of clothing history and there'll be hands-on interaction too.
The discovery cases is a social science program that follows settler's clothing and lifestyle in the 20th century. There's also discussions on the fur trade in Canada and fibre to fabric which showcases the five major sources of textile fabrics.
