St Victor Petroglyphs Provincial Park
About St Victor Petroglyphs Provincial Park
The St. Victor Petroglyphs are one of Saskatchewan's mysteries. No one knows exactly who carved them, why they were carved or even when they were carved. All we can be certain of is that they provide clues to the people who lived on Saskatchewan's plains hundreds of years ago at a time predating any of our written records.
The best time to view the glyphs is on a clear day in the early morning or towards sunset when the shallow grooves cast shadows which define and outline the shapes. An interpretive panel and a reproduction of selected glyphs are near the picnic area and toilets and at the trailhead leading to the glyphs. You'll see over 300 carvings at the park and are all unique.
The cliff edge is restricted, however there is a lookout point where you'll be able to look down at the glyphs. You can also vicit the Learning Place Visitor Centre where you'll discover the traditions and teachinings of the medicine wheel. Make sure you visit the McGinnis Lake too which is bright blue and green due to the laers of water that dont intermix! There's also plenty of opportunities to do a spot of wildlife viewing as well.
