About St Patricks Basilica

St Patricks Basilica was opened on March 17th, 1847 to serve the needs of the Irish immigrants who had come to Montreal in great numbers due to the famine and other troubles in Ireland. The Basilica has been designated an Historical Monument by the Government of Quebec.

The church was built in the Gothic Revival style overlooking the city of montreal, with the spire being seen by all! Nowadays, as the city grew, the church is surrounded by the modern-day. Recently, the church has underwent a major restoration and is a desginated Historical Monument of Canada.

The church is open for visits and prayers during weekdays between Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm and daily mass is at 12:10pm only. On the weekends the church is open on Saturdays from 10am until the end of the 5pm mass. On Sunday, it's open all day until 5pm. So there's plenty of opportunities to visit.

Every Tuesday, Mother of Perpetual Help Devotions is held and was introduced in the 1920s. The weekly vigil accommodates the many visitors who find the Devotions one of their favourite ways of paying tribute.
