About Red Bank First Nation Metepenagiag
Red Bank First Nation Metepenagiag are located at the head of tide on the Miramichi River. The area has been home to the Mi'kmaq community for over 3000 years, making it the oldest settled community in New Brunswick.
You can fully immerse yourself in the culture as you can join the locals in their annual festivities. The Trout Derby brings the whole community together for a weekend of competition! The Pow Wow allows you to admire the sunrise ceremony, indulge in traditional cuisines and join in with some songs and dances too!
If you're a foodie, you'll love to the Taste of Metepenagiag experience. You'll experience a guided tour of the community and park and a stop at the interpretation centre to learn more about the lives of the people. You'll then gather fresh ingredients that will be served in an outdoor cooking shelter. Sample seasonal fish, game, wild race and tea and hear stories around the campfire.
The Heritage Park tells the story of the community. Exnjoy music and listen to stories handed down through generations. You can walk the trails of ancestors overlooking the river and view archeological finds of the village and understand the significance of the traditions.
