About Railway Coastal Museum
The Railway Coastal Museum a non-profit museum that showcases the history of the railway and coastal boat service in Newfoundland.The museum houses a 1940’s era diorama of a passenger train, 28 models, murals, and paintings, a train park, and a dockyard exhibit.
The Railway Coastal Museum's home is in the 107 year old train station building, located at 495 Water Street West in St. John’s. It occupies the entire ground floor, and including the passenger platform. The two upper floors house the St. John’s City Archives and Records, and the social rooms of the CN Pensioners.
Not only do we have amazing exhibits but we also offer train themed birthday parties, a great gift shop, and guided tours for groups of all ages!
Whether you are visiting as a family or as part of a group, the Railway Coastal Museum allows you to experience the glory days of the Newfoundland Railway and Coastal Boat Service!

Does Railway Coastal Museum have a gift shop?
The gift shop sells many interesting products including a wide selection of jewelry, including Labradorite and Baltic Amber.
The gift shop also offers one of the best selection of Thomas and Friends toys and accessories! We also have introduced Chuggington and Dinosaur Train toys and accessories.
The gift shop is always getting in new products so keep checking in for new and exciting products!
Teachers corner
The Railway Coastal Museum has educational programs that provide an exciting and informative experience for students while they learn about the history of the railway and coastal boat service in Newfoundland. These programs vary in length from one to two hours and we not only give a tour of the museum, but also curriculum based learning activities for your students.
The program varies based on grade level to provide the best experience for the students and teachers that visit us. Some of the activities include a scavenger hunt (Grade 8 and 9), a timeline puzzle (Grade 3 and 4), analyzing artifacts from the past (Grade 6 and 7), and creating advertisements for the railway (Grade 1 and 2), just to name a few.

Any additonal information?
The Railway Coastal Museum hosts a children’s event, Little Toot Tuesdays, from 1-3 pm every Tuesday to June 1st. There will be crafts, stories, games, and much more! It is free for children and only $6 for adults and $5 for seniors. Hope to see you there!
