About Pier 21

Pier 21 tells the stories of 1.5 million immigrants, war brides, displaced people, evacuee children and Canadian military service personnel who passed through its doors between 1928 and 1971. It's aim is to the share the past and present stories of ongoing immigration to Canada and explore the hope and hardshop of the immigrant experience, which will help understand ourselves and the country as well.

The exhibitions focus on first-person accounts, photographs, artifacts and immersive experiences as you explore the themes of journey, arrival and belonging. The Canadian Immigration Story will allow you to the witness the challenge and joy experienced by newcomers. Trace the changing migration trends on the map, discover 400 years of immigration history and browse a compelling collection of stories and histories. You'll also be able to share how you feel in their growing digital Belonging Quilt.

The Pier 21 Story will allow you to experience what it was like to immigrate to Canada. From the ships to trains and the houses. You'll be able to explore the children's trunks and pack your own trunk to see what items you were allowed too.
