Makwa Lake Provincial Park
About Makwa Lake Provincial Park
Makwa Lake Provincial Park is made up of a huge forest connecting five lakes! Picture yourself sitting beside the campfire on a breezeless evening just after sunset. It's completely quiet, except for the odd crackle from the fire. And then out of the distance comes that haunting cry of the loon. And you know everything is just right.
Makwa Lake Provincial Park, located 5 km west of Loon Lake and half an hour south of Meadow Lake Provincial Park, takes its name from the Cree word for loon.
That's because there's no shortage of these elegant creatures on the five clean lakes adjoining this natural environment park, which features several sandy beaches, three campgrounds, a total of more than 250 campsites, showers and convenient access to groceries and supplies.
There are two resorts with rental cabins in the vicinity. If you're in the area, visit the nearby Steele Narrows Park too, which is the site of the final battle of the North-West Resistance.
