About Japanese Canadian National Museum
The Japanese Canadian National Museum is situated at the corner of Kingsway and Sperling in Burnaby, BC. A key component of the National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre in the Nikkei Place complex, the museum officially opened on September 22, 2000 with its inaugural exhibit, Reshaping memory, Owning History, Through the Lens of Japanese Canadian Redress.
There are over 4,000 historical photographs, 1000 artifacts, recordings and archives that all visitors can access. There's also lots of exhibitions throughout the year for the whole family to get involved in and learn more about the history and daily life in the past.
They have school programs too. There's a Japanese Culture trup, where you'll experience two-hours of Japanese cultural activities and you'll join the local community as they share their expertise with you. You'll take part in hands-on activities, crafts and get a real taste of Japan, with a traditional tea ceremony, origami and kimono.
The Japanese Canadian History program will see you meet an internment survivor, explore historical exhibits and much more which can be adapted to all abilities and ages too. Just get in touch with them to book your next trip!
