About Fort Calgary
Fort Calgary is located just east of downtown Calgary on a 40-acre site. Open year-round, the Fort offers Calgarians and their guests fun, interactive exhibits, tours and school programs. Discover some of the stories that make the lands here historical and meaningful as you explore with the whole family.
Explore the museum exhibits about Treaty 7, Metis influence and more and the founding and early stages of the city. Check out the 1888 Barracks and take a self-guided audio tour and discover the parklands and river. These are of particular significance to the indigenous people since before 1875 when the North West Mounted Police established Fort Calgary. You'll also find lots of regular programs throughout the year too so make sure you check the website before you visit to see what's coming up!
Gather round the fireside for some stories! the outdoor events bring diverse perspectives from lots of speakers who share their knowledge, history and personal stories. There's also craft workshops too where you can get creative and that will enahnce learning. For schools, there's lots of programs that are rotted in the layered histories so get in touch with them to book your visit!
