About Eastern Edge Gallery
Eastern Edge Gallery is a non-commercial artist-run centre committed to exhibiting Canadian and International Contemporary art in diverse media, including visual, audio, interactive, performance, film and video, installation, and new technologies.
Established in 1984, it's Newfoundland and Labrador's first artist-run centre for visual arts. The gallery facilitates critical dialogue concerning issues in contemporary art and society, and encouraging emerging and established artists who work speaks for a number of diverse perspectives. The gallery is a supportive space to develop skills, share information and resouces and to create a meaningful contect for artistic activity.
They have lots of cregular exhibitions that rotate throughout the year. Some of the past exhibitions include Negotiating +/- which is an installation consisting of individual plastic bags inflating and deflating which alters the gallery space. It offers a concept of space and offers a moment of pause for visitors.
Each year they hold the Hold Fast festival, which is a four day celebration of contemporary art practice. It delivers accessible and maingful contemporary art programs across an array of media including talks, dance, events and workshops for all ages.
