About Clarington Museums and Archives
Clarington Museums and Archives works to collect, preseve and present artifacts that are the history and heritage of Clarington's villages and communities. Their exhibitions and programs help inspire future generations and eliven the community to discover, explore and create.
The Sarah Jane Williams Heritage Centre houses the major parts of the collection. The largest of the exhibit spaces, it presents high-quality temporary exhibitions to Clarington throughout the year, as well as travelling exhibits. Waveryley Place is a regency style cottage built in 1847 and reflects the lifestyle of a wealthy merchant family. There are nine rooms to explore including a dining room, bedroom and conservatory.
The Clarke Schoolhouse is the first designated heritage building in the community. There are outdoor displays of agricultural equipment and depicts the early pioneer life in Clarke Township. If you can't make the trip to the museum in person, then they have a vast collection of virtual exhibits online! Including a collection corner where they highlight objects and stories from the collection, virtual spirit walk and a waverley place tour, so you can sit in the comfort of your own home and explore history!
