Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre delivers educational and fun experiences which celebrates the community, place and culture. There are lots of exhibits, collections and hands on experiences to be had for all ages and the whole family!
The From Coal to Community is one of the permanent exhibits and presents Canmore in a variety of perspectives. As an ancient way station for indigenous First Nationas to a 95 year old historic coal-mining community and everything in between! You can explore the depths of the Canmore Mine with the virtual realtity experience where you'll be immersed in the sights and sounds of the No. 2 mine as it would have been in the 1950s.
The Lost Landmarks exhibits commemorates and celebrates the lost landmarks that are long gone, which brings a huge sense of nostalgia when visiting. In the Summer, the Stoney Nakoda Tipi will presents a stories program that shares the traditions and culture and language of the Stoney Nakoda.
There's also lots of educational programs too that will ignite new ideas and they connect curriculum concepts taught in the classroom with the learning that comes from engaging with the indigenous community and museum collection. History comes to life as students will discover the meaning of personal stories and objects!
