About Bytown Museum
Bytown Museum explores the stories of an evolving city and its residents from its early days as Bytown to present day Ottawa. Housed in Ottawa's oldest stone building, the Museum is located at the Rideau Canal locks between Parliament Hill and the Château Laurier—one of the most picturesque sites in the city.
To assist you with your visit, theres a six language audiot guide with your admission! Explore the permanent gallery at your lesiure and discover the stories, objects and meet the people that shaped Bytown and early Ottawa. There are also lots of temporar exhibitions that come to the museum throughout the year, so keep an eye on their website to make sure you're all up to date!
For children, the museum offers lots of opportunities to learn outside the classroom! Discover the teasures and become an explorer of history, learn about the culture and construction, travel back in time and visit the police station and even learn how the locks work and how they were built. Theres lots to see, do and explore!
