About Billings Estate National Historic Site
Billings Estate National Historic Site's trained interpreters will guide you through the epic story, spanning four generations, of one of Ottawa's founding families and the evolution of the surrounding village. Key players in the development of an early Ottawa bridge, its fast-growing timber business, and the conversion of the area's forest into farmland, Braddish and Lamira Billings and their family stand as testament to the realization of a vision and the creation of a community.
The collections contains more that 27,000 artefacts, many which are at the museum. They belonged to the family, neighbours and includer furniture, house hoods, possessions and equipment. The exhibitions tell the stories of the estat and community and can be accessed on the main floor of the museum.
The permanent exhibition The Billings Family Story, explores the story, relationships, history of industry and the community that grew over the years. It features interactive features such as a touch screen family-tree audio recordings and radio programs.
